I hope you and your families are well and having a great summer. I would like to share with you a few updates. The CVRA/Ektelon Championship Series will continue this season with a new feature. For the past few seasons, players had to compete in four of the six events to qualify as a winner. We have deleted the minimum number of tournaments required to be a winner. All that is required now is for a division to have enough players and then the person with the highest point total for their division will be the winner. For this past season our entire prize package was approximately $5,000. We expect to have another large prize package again this season. More information can be found on the CVRA.org website. The Championship Series Events are as follows: Sept. 25-27, 2nd Annual YMCA James River Open, Lynchburg. Nov. 6-8, Annual Turkey Shootout, Newport News. Jan. 22-24, Snowman Classic, Richmond. Feb. 5-7, American Door & Glass Winter Classic, Roanoke. Mar. 19-21, Dr. Edward M. Jewusiak Memorial Tournament, Newport News. Apr. 9-11, 2010 Worldgate Spring Open, Herndon.
Due to USAR National Doubles being moved to February our CVRA State Doubles tournament will be moving from September to January 8-10, 2010. Please plan accordingly. Location for this tournament has not yet been determined. Please continue to check the CVRA Tournament Calendar and website for updated information.
In an effort to facilitate the work load and capitalize on individual strengths and interests we have reorganized our Board committees as follows: Karen Denu is now the Chairperson for Women’s Programming Committee, Sharlene Donovan, our new Vice-President, is the Chairperson for Military Relations Committee, Roddy Hogg is the Chairperson for Marketing/Public Relations/Fundraising/Sponsorships/Newsletter Committee, Jay Kreider is the Chairperson for Seniors/Masters Programming Committee and Earl Petzold is Chairperson for Regional Coordinators Committee. You may find a list of the other committees, chairpersons and committee members on the CVRA.org site. We are looking for members who have the time (approximately 6 - 8 hrs per month) and an interest in serving on a committee. If interested, please contact Phil Wheeler at driveserve@email.com or by phone 540-721-9035.
Nominations for the Annual Awards are now being accepted. A complete list of awards and descriptions is posted on the CVRA website. Awards will be presented at the General Membership meeting and Awards Banquet held during State Doubles in January. Please submit your nominations to Sharlene Donovan, sjdonovan@earthlink.net, Bonny Simpson, bonnyblue54@gmail.com, and Carter Green, racquetball4life@cox.net. Deadline for nominations is November 30.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and look forward to seeing you at one of the upcoming tournaments!
