The CVRA Board has implemented a new “objective” process for evaluating bids for the state championships. The tournament directors (TDs) from the clubs submitting bids must fill out a form which has 25+ categories for which points are awarded. These categories include number of courts, courts with glass back walls, TDs experience hosting Championship Series and State Championship events, average number of players at their tournaments, rates and proximity of hotels, meals and drinks provided, childcare, etc.
TDs are encouraged to include a commentary with their submittal to highlight specific amenities at their club, special events, or any other details they want to make known.
The CVRA received 3 bids for State Doubles from Worldgate, Robious, and Greenbrier North YMCA. They were reviewed in great detail, TDs were contacted to discuss the information in many of the categories, and in the end Greenbrier North YMCA came out on top so will be hosting State Doubles January 8-10, 2010.
The Board will review this process and enhance it as we move forward. This process will be used to evaluate bids for State Singles which will be held in March, 2010.
The Board will also assemble a committee to review all of the draws for the state tournaments this season to ensure players are entered in appropriate divisions and that seeding is fair and accurate.
